The Sunday Hangover – Teebs

I know you’ve been waiting for it. All day long, all of you have been spending your Halloween thinking, “Where is the Sunday hangover?” Well, you know what, TREMBLE/SWEATSHOP OF LOVE hosted a TOTALLY AMAZING HALLOWEEN PARTY LAST NIGHT, so I’ve been spending my morning/afternoon/evening recovering from that.

On the recommendation of my friend/brother/purveyor of all things good taste, Charlie Tebeau, I checked out an emerging west coast production act called, Teebs. This guy is an extremely prolific artist. He paints, and his work is sensational. Aside from that, he also makes really beautiful music that will surely melt away your hangover today. Rooted in hip hop, Teebs makes songs that are both glitchy and groovy. The grooves in Teebs songs typically don’t come from a really deep thumping bass line, however. It is often single chord guitar strums and hazy, lazy melodies that keep you zoned.

His post production skills are more than adequate. This stuff is pristinely produced. Teebs deviates from a lot of popular “use reverb to mask the fact that we don’t know what we’re doing” production that sounds really far away and brings you some very clean “I’m right up in your ears” style beats that will have you head nodding for days.

Teebs is very talented, and I’d be willing to bet he does a little bit of this.
