A very loud interview with CFCF, a.k.a Mike Silver. Jamie and Mike were sitting so close, but still had to shout just to hear each other. It was that loud at the W Hotel poolside party. Mike talks to us about his new album, Phillip Glass, and where he most enjoys writing music.

Harouki Zombi is the brainchild of Azure Ray’s Orenda Fink and occasional Of Montreal member Nina Barnes. We chatted with these fine ladies before their perforamance at SXSW.

We talked with Argentinean 3 piece Capsula about dadaism, the future noise, and the effects of the economic crisis on musicians in Argentina. Performance footage is from their show at the Grackle in Austin during SXSW.

Dutch singer-songwriter Thijs Kuijken of “I am Oak” takes a moment to talk to the tremble crew while he was down in Austin for SXSW. He tells us about his songwriting process, how influential nature is, and plays us a new, unreleased song. He’s got a new album called “Nowhere on Tammensaari” coming out in June, which we’re pretty excited about.

It was so great talking with the cats from Quilt down in Austin. Anna Fox Rochinsk, Shane Butler, and John Andrews were incredibly gracious and humble. Such an awesome band. Their self titled album came out in November on Mexican Summer, and it’s chocked full of twangy psychedelic grooves, with some great harmonies. We’ve been listening to Quilt nonstop.

Our annual SXSW coverage has begun, and we will be releasing video interviews we conducted over this next week. So make sure you check back daily for new video interviews with Quilt, I am Oak, CFCF, Capsula and many others. Covering SXSW is a double edged sword for us- we both love and hate to cover this festival. The Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 performance we covered in Austin, which is shown in the video above, was plagued with problems from the start. Egypt 80 should’ve never played on such a small stage, and the venue couldn’t handle the set up. Seun and Egypt 80 flew all the way from Nigeria to play this show, which was cut short due to the technical difficulties of the sound booth and set up. Tremble was fortunate to see Egypt 80 play again this past Sunday at the House of Blues in Chicago, and there was no comparison. They actually had enough room on stage to move around.

In this video, Seun Kuti tells us about the timeless attributes of the Afrobeat genre, the implications of the retraction of the oil subsidies on the Nigerian people, western vs. african governmental corruption, and what’s coming up for Egypt 80.

Let’s just talk about how good this song is. We are going to be chatting with Quilt down in Austin next week, and while coordinating this interview with John (the drummer) I asked him if it would be way cheesy if we conducted the interview in front of a quilt. That I made. Because I make quilts.

The fluid movement of the debris being vomited from the bowels of this foreclosed home is delicate and balanced. The abrasive violence of the scene unexpectedly evokes a sense of calm. The artists describe “Last New Year” as a celebration of the end, a study of crisis management, a search for meaning, a chance for closure, and “an unwavering column of truth in a desert of confusion.”
